A person who used to work for Donald Trump has died after being shot during a carjacking.
In Trump’s time in office, Mike Gill was chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. On Monday night in Washington, DC, he was shot by a suspect who later stole several cars.
Gill was hurt very badly and had to be taken to the hospital.
The suspect got into his car, shot him, and then ran off. He was sitting in his car at the time.

Douglas said that soon after, a woman yelled, “Oh my god, that’s my husband!” from a nearby building.
News station WTTG in the area reports that the Metropolitan Police Department thinks the suspect then stole a Chrysler 200 and killed the owner of the car.
The outlet says that two New Carrollton police officers shot and killed the suspect early Tuesday morning.
Gill’s wife told WTTG in a statement that he had died.
“It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill,” he wrote.
“His sudden death has left a hole in our lives that must be filled.”
“In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and assistance,” Kristina said.
“Mike loved being a husband and father, but he also loved being a son, brother, and friend.” Mike had a wonderful life where he brought people together and made them feel loved, supported, and included.
“His heart was evident in everything he did, as demonstrated by his mentorship and deep friendships with those who worked with him professionally,” she said.
Their three kids are Sean, Brian, and Annika. Gill is married to his wife.
A LONG LIST OF SUCCESSES
Gill worked for Donald Trump in the administration and was the Republican representative on the DC Board of Elections past.
Before that, from June 1993 to August 1997, Gill worked as Paul Gillmor’s press secretary and legislative assistant in the 5th District of Ohio.
From August 1997 to August 2000, he was the executive director for Ripon. From August 2000 to July 2004, he was the senior vice president for AFFI.
Gill worked as a lawyer for Crowell & Moring LLP from July 2004 to October 2016.
Besides that, from October 2016 to November 2019, he was the chief of staff to Christopher Giancarlo, who was the chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission at the time.
His job title at the time of his death was senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council.
